HMI (Hydrargyrum medium-arc iodide) lights provide a highly efficient daylight-balanced light at 5600K. They are generally used to mix with and augment natural daylight. At 85 to 108 lumens per watt, HMIs put out roughly four times as much light as the same wattage tungsten lamp at about 26 lumens per watt. One additional advantage is that HMIs turn more energy into light - not heat, making 'the mark' a cooler area.
PAR: The 575 watt and 1.2K watt lights that Video Gear offers also features a PAR-style lamp. That's a Parabolic Aluminized Reflector, providing a more reliable and focused light than other HMI lights.
